A short story

The Day of Closure

Click, click, click went the keys on the keyboard. She was typing in a fury as not to forget what she wanted to write. She was writing him again. She kew it was futile but she couldn't stop herself. All she wanted was closure and she knew she couldn't get that until he responded. As she typed her mind flew back in time.

There she was sitting in the warm tall grass next to him. It was the middle of the afternoon and they had snuck away from their classes for a drive. They had wound up in secluded area down by the riverside. He looked at her and smiled that amazing toothpaste commercial smile. She felt as if she would melt. They had been together for almost a year now but she still got butterflies everytime she was around him. He leaned closer and started to kiss her gently. She returned the kiss and before they knew it they were laying on the ground kissing passionately with the soft breeze blowing accross them. They spent the afternoon wrapped in each others arms, their bodies soaking in the warm sunlight. Then all of a sudden they thought of the time. She wasn't ready for the moment to end. She wanted to stay with him here forever. But alas school and parents beckoned them back to true reality. They gathered their clothes and dressed hastily realizing they'd spent more time here than planned. As they ran back to her car he felt something crawling on his leg. They both looked down and realized they were covered in ticks! They brushed them off as quickly as possible and looked each other over to make sure none had gotten attached. When they were in the clear they began to laugh and this, was where her memory ended.

She felt herself chuckling as she did that day. Even stupid or scary things were wonderful with him. She missed that deeply. She became somber again as she thought of the years that had passed since they last spoke and the numerous emails she had sent that were never returned. Slowly she deleted every last word she had typed. She wasn't going to send this one. No, she would leave well enough alone. The only thing she wanted was for him to be happy. That's what real love is about. Caring more about the other person than your own selfish wants. She knew he must be happy without her or he would have responded by now. A pang of sorrow and remorse hit her. But it would pass and at least she had the memories. It is time for her to move on now too. This was her day of closure.
